DSP-4 Digital Signal Processor |
DSP-4 Digital Signal Processor
Compact module offering two channels of independent DSP and attaches to the back of most 2-channel DataPort-equipped QSC amplifiers—without occupying any additional rack space.
Each channel includes:
- Crossover filtering
- Multiple parametric EQs
- Shelf filtering
- Tone and noise generation
- Precision attenuation
- Multiple delays (up to 910 ms)
- Mixing
- Compression and limiting
Capitalizing on the success of our DSP-3, the second-generation DSP-4 provides several enhancements in functionality and performance while also incorporating the universally popular XLR balanced connectors. These enhancements include new A/D and D/A converters for improved signal-to-noise performance and upgraded software that significantly increases the unit’s operational characteristics.
Powerful
Simple to install, compact, and featuring "set-and-forget" convenience, the DSP-4’s powerful processor enables you to perform a wide range of signal processing functions; and with its new A/D and D/A converters, its noise floor improves. Whether you need speaker crossovers, EQ, time delay, or subsonic filters, the DSP-4 is as flexible as your system’s needs.
Configurable
The DSP-4’s processing horsepower is dynamically assignable so you are not limited by a fixed signal chain. Simply use QSC’s powerful PC-based Signal Manager software to easily configure multiple processing functions and signal flow with “drag-and-drop” tools.
Cost-effective
The power and flexibility of the DSP-4 eliminates the need for expensive outboard processing gear, reducing cost and installation time for almost any application. The compact DSP-4 also plugs directly into the back of most QSC DataPort-equipped amplifiers for use in systems where rack space is a premium.

Signal Manager
DSP configuration is made simple with a PC-based "drag-and-drop" software program called Signal Manager. Users can access a DSP "toolbox" and simple drawing tools to configure processing functions and signal flow. DSP processing power and memory is dynamically assignable to signal processing functions and any combination of functions may be configured until the total capacity is used. DSP resources are graphically displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Configurations can be downloaded directly to the DSP-3/DSP-4 via an RS-232 serial port or through a QSControl Audio Network System via CM16a Amplifier Network Monitor for added simplicity. The software package also offers real-time control and set-and-forget convenience. Configurations can be saved and recalled for future use.
QSC's Latest Signal Manager Software Updated 2 May 2002
- Download our newest version of Signal Manager (v.4.75) for your DSP device: Signal Manager v.4.75
- After downloading the file, extract the contents using an unzipping utility like WinZip into a directory on your hard drive.
- Launch the SETUP. EXE file to start the Signal Manager installation process.

Whether you need speaker crossovers, EQ, time delay, or subsonic filters, the DSP-3/DSP-4 is as flexible as your system's needs.
Please refer to the ReadMe file for any late-breaking information about the software. There is also a comprehensive Help section included with Signal Manager. Detailed explanations and examples about everything from hardware to software use are written in an easy-to-understand manner. The following known hardware issues / User Manual addendums, can be downloaded as PDF files (Adobe Acrobat Reader required):
Newer DSP-3s manufactured with serial numbers of 0800xxxxx and greater must use the straight through normal type serial cable. Older DSP-3s manufactured with serial numbers of 0700xxxxx and LOWER must use a “null-modem” type serial cable.
CX, DCA, and PL2 amps made prior to August 1999 DO NOT provide adequate power supply voltage to the module, requiring the use of the same type of external DC supply as used with Powerlight amplifiers.
Please read the DSP-3 Input/Output Polarity Issue for units manufactured prior to 09/2000.
In response to your requests, expect to receive future releases on a regular basis. Some of the planned features for future releases include:
- a GUI with simplification of modes and presets
- power limiting
- allow preset change via contact closure
- a flash update utility
